Peter, Rock Star from Galilee: A Guided Bible Study for Teens by Sherree Funk

As a Sunday school teacher, I am always on the lookout for engaging new materials for youths. Peter: Rock Star from Galilee: A Guided Bible Study for Teens by Sherree Funk, is an eight-week Bible study for teens that combines music, Bible learning, and modern-day applications.

Each week begins with a playlist of songs that are a mix of contemporary Christian music and traditional hymns. A different aspect of Peter's life is featured every week, from his being called to follow Jesus, to the miralces he performed in the name of Jesus, his escape from prison, and beyond. The final week discusses Peter's legacy.

Each section ends with a way for young people to apply what they learned to their everyday life. For example, the first Christian Reality Challenge encourages readers to follow Jesus for a whole day: think like him, act like him, give up what you think he would want you to give up, etc. Then the reader is encouraged to share how things went with the group next time they meet. Questions posed to small groups can help initiate deeper discussions, making this a meaningful study of Peter's life that will draw young people in.

There's even a Facebook group that will go through the Bible study together starting in September. You can find that at http://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/Peterrockstar/ I'm going to recommend this book to our pastor to see if our youth group will give it a try.

Well-grounded in biblical Christianity, Sherree G. Funk is passionate about sharing her love and knowledge of God’s Word with the next generation. She has earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and holds a Certificate in Christian Studies from Asbury Theological Seminary. Sherree leads small groups of teens at Ingomar UMC. Peter: Rock Star from Galilee is her latest release. Her other teen Bible studies are available at www.servingonelord.com.
