Distractions: Believing Lies from the Accuser...
You have heard those condemning thoughts before, “You are not good enough; you will never amount to anything.” “Just give up, you won’t get through to your friend, so what’s the use.” “You shouldn’t have done that, now God won’t use you.” Shame. Guilt. Hurt. No motivation to share your faith. I know the feeling too. Sometimes these words come from people you love and sometimes they come from inside your head. These are straight up lies from the enemy. The Bible tells us that Satan uses lies to accuse the believers before God day and night…
“Satan, the one deceiving the whole world…the accuser of the believers…and accuses them before our God day and night.” Revelation 12:9-10
The Accuser wants you to focus on yourself and the hurt you are experiencing, not on reaching your lost friends and family. He wants you to be consumed in your shame and insecurity, not God’s love and power. If you continue to believe the lies from the enemy, you will be paralyzed to reach your friends for Jesus. Satan will pull you away from living THE Cause by feeding you with lies all day long. But how do I get away from these thoughts? Is there any hope?
“So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Jesus Christ.” Romans 8:1
Yes there is! We don’t have to agree with the enemy’s lies anymore. Jesus set us free. He has given us weapons to fight these lies. Through prayer, God wants us to hold that lie in prison and give it to Jesus—and He wants us to ask Him if it lines up with what He says about us. If we don’t destroy these lies—the enemy not only we distract us—but we will keep people from knowing God…
“We use God’s mighty weapons to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Jesus.” 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
I know how discouraging it can be when people feed us lies about ourselves. But we have to make a resolve to hear only what God says about us and declare what God has done for us. We overcome the devil and his lies by the blood of the Lamb (which is the truth and work of what He did on the cross 2,000 yrs ago for you) & by declaring who you are now as a believer in Christ (the word of your testimony that you are a new creation).
“But the believers have defeated and overcome the accuser by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus) and by their testimony.” Revelation 12:11
In other words, remind yourself what Jesus did for you. How did He change your life? What is different about your life as a believer now? When you begin to think about all that God has done for you—the lies will fade and the excitement to tell your story to others will surface!
When you get up in the morning declare who you are in Christ. You are a child of God. You are His disciple, His ambassador, His new creation. He died for you and He bought you from the power of the enemy with His own blood and nothing will be able to snatch you out of His love and care.
Then declare who God is. He is your Savior, Creator, loving Father, He is good and provides for you, He fills you with joy and peace, He forgives you, and He wants relationship with you daily. You will be filled with God’s thoughts, not the enemy’s thoughts. Making these declarations daily will silence the lies when they come and you will regain confidence and power to live THE Cause again.
You are an overcomer! Believe what Jesus says about you! Remember what He has done in your life! And share your story with someone today!
Get back in the Game, be exposed to Jesus, and expose others to Him!
