Praying for Students
We had a youth leaders meeting last night, and through all of the fun and camaraderie we got knocked upside the head with an idea so fresh and new, yet so simple and foundational. As we talked about the students and our roles in the youth group, the youth pastor spoke up with a question... What is God telling you the next step is in the life of your students?
Our youth group has a bunch of leaders and not too many students, so we are able to divide tasks and duties. Praying for the ministry and for the students is nothing new to our leaders, but I don't think I've ever asked God for help me know and understand their next step. When I pray for my students, I tend to pray for specific things that they are going through, and for general help that God would allow them to see Him for who He is. I guess I never really thought about asking Him for what He knows to be what they need to move forward.
It's funny how we try to push our own agendas in our ministries. Our lives are the same way. We try to do what we feel is best for us, and usually ask God for His blessing on our efforts, if we even talk to Him at all about our choices. How often do we really seek Him for the next step?
Do you ask God for His opinion on your ministry? Do you pray that God would help you see what the next step is in the life of those He placed in your care?

I have been working with youth and young adults for about 5 years now. My passion is helping young people connect with Jesus and live a life devoted to Him. I work for a school district in their IT department for a living. I have a BA in Leadership and Ministry from Ohio Christian University, and I look forward to getting into full-time ministry.
