What is Your Driving Passion in Working Among Street Kids?
Interesting question asked by Nathaniel Dame.
The most obvious answer is Jesus. But I also want it to be...
What do I mean?
Well, maybe it is time to face up to the fact that I don’t always do what Jesus wants or asks and my attitude to life sometimes stinks. Jesus doesn’t always get a look in. But He should do. Having made me who I am, He is not walking away right now. He knows my desires, my heart and my calling. He knows my family and my friends.
Psalm 37 v 4 says, “And He will give you the desires of your heart”.And this verse is really at the heart of my reply. I love being on the street, chatting and larking around, showing Jesus and being there. It is my desire… But who placed the desire. Was it always there or did Jesus place that desire on my heart, for the verse can be read 2 ways:
He will give you the desires of your heart, could mean if I want a Lotus Elan, Jesus will give it to me because I desire it!Or it could mean that Jesus will give me a desire for my heart. So jesus gives me a desire to be a youth worker and to be on the street with the young people.
Having said all the above, yes serving Jesus is my number 1 reason for being on the street. I would have to add:
I love being thereI love showing young people you can be different. Challenge to a new lifestyle
Seeing young people change and become something newIt’s the best place to be – it’s pure, it’s relational and it’s challenging
I look forward to seeing you there.
P.S. (My wife said this and how right she is). If I’m not there, I am not completely myself. Something is missing in me.
