Developing Student Leaders
When I came to the church that I currently serve at nearly three years ago, I was convinced that developing students leaders is a huge part of influencing people within student ministry. And it's so true. There was a lady at our church who has developed some curriculum that she has called "Servant Team" in which she has put together a four year plan that allows for a Youth Leader to simply follow some different grids to develop leaders through knowledge, experience, and team building. It's a great curriculum and very adaptable for anyone to use. It's pretty open as far as how people could use it. If you are interested in recieving this curriculum or learning more about it, please email me at chris@westefc.org and put "Servant Team Stuff" in the subject line.
The way that I implement it in my context of ministry is I have a group of 12 students that meet once a week to develop leadership skills and gifts. We talk through scripture, challenge them to live out their faith in all contexts, and ask them to be leaders within their youth group. When this group gets on board with what is happening in your Youth Ministry, we have seen unbelievable things because they are a force to be reckoned with. In the past, I have really struggled with what types of things I need to be discipling students with, but with the curriculum we are using, it is so much easier to know the direction that we need to go.
Let's develop student leaders and see them as a tremendous asset to the local body of Christ!
