Jelly Belly's & Religion Both Offer Many Flavors

When picking out Jelly Bellies or a religion some tend to lean toward their favorite flavors. When it comes to eternal life there is only one clear choice…faith in Jesus Christ alone. So what flavor are you peddling religion or a relationship?

Now……what did I do with that bag of jelly beans?

Be Yourself…Live Unashamed!

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. – Romans 1:16

Sometimes we get to fearful of what people think about us. What they stop saying as you walk into the room, or what they say when you go out. Sometimes the reason we don’t talk about God to others is because we’re scared they will judge us. Scared they will look at us differently for believing in a God that created us.

It’s funny how everyone somehow contradicts themselves at some point.

Furnace-Fueled Evangelism

I was giving advice on buying a piece of property the other day to a fellow Chi Alpha campus pastor. I used to sell real estate for a living and knew the answers to many questions she had.

It got me thinking about the last blog entry I wrote about effective techniques for “marketing” your church or ministry (something even I struggle with as I itinerate to raise money to get me to the mission field.)

About

I am an author, blogger, pastor, and musician. I love the college campus and am working with Chi Alpha to reach college students, so I can teach them something before they learn everything.

I'm the author of The Kakos Realm (soon to be rereleased by Marion Margaret Press) and keep a blog called Holy Schmitz! at http://christopherschmitz.blogspot.com. My articles posted here (and more) are also available on my blog.

The Prop - Using Art & Humanitarian good to start meaningful conversations

Vote for The Prop everyday in July at www.refresheverything.com/theprop

A youth pastor creates a fresh platform for artistic students to be a part of doing good in the world -- and in turn -- creates opportunities for spiritual conversation.

The Real Good News

“To recover the old, authentic, biblical gospel, and to bring our preaching and practice back into line with it, is perhaps our most pressing present need.” J. I. Packer wrote these words in his 1958 introduction to a reprint of John Owen’s The Death of Death in the Death of Christ.

Matt Erickson

I am a husband to Kelly, father of three boys, a pastor, musician, avid hiker, disciple of Christ. Currently, I am employed as the Associate Pastor at Brooklife Church in Mukwonago, WI, which I helped to plant a few years ago after serving for five years as the Collegiate Ministries Pastor at Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, WI. Excuses Youth Group Students Make for NOT Sharing Their Faith

They think the youth leadership team will do it for them.

They are afraid of rejection.

They lack the confidence...

Video: A Non Christian’s View of Christians

Last night I invited my friend Alex who is an Atheist to the high school Bible study I teach. We videotaped the event to show other youth workers what we’re up to.

I believe this illustrates a missing link to our outreach programs. If we can talk to non-Christians, we’ll have a better idea how to reach them.

Identity & Evangelism

“Who am I?”  This is the question virtually every teen asks themselves.

Identity is important in more ways than most could imagine. It isn’t just about a sense of self worth, it is much more.

When it comes to identity, it can be one of the biggest obstacles a person faces in sharing their faith, it can also be their sources of strength.

John Byrne's Bio

John Byrne has been involved in youth ministry for more then 15 years. His ability to engage, challenge, and speak relevantly to his audience has led to speaking opportunities nationwide including camps, seminars, conferences, and training events. He has also written for Group Magazine, Youthworker Journal, and contributed to Youth Ministry Lemonade: turning “sour” experiences into leadership success. To see more of his writing check out the YM Theology blog.

John knew he wanted to be a youth pastor at the early age of 13. While attending Oak Hills Bible College he met the woman of his dreams and convinced her to marry him. After a two year honeymoon in the great state of Colorado he returned to his home state of Minnesota to finish his Biblical Studies degree from Northwestern Bible College.

John’s passion is living out the great mission (commission) in his life and helping others do the same. He does this through writing and speaking as well as missional living in his own neighborhood and community.

John is currently the Student Ministries Pastor at The Rock of Southwest, a church in Littleton, Colorado. He lives in Littleton with his wife Christa, daughter Catrina 11, and son Joash 4.

THE Cause & Mission Trips A Great Combo

Yesterday, I had the privilege of speaking at Messiah College for their 5th annual Youth Worker’s Conference. The topic of my session was “Youth Mission Trips – WHY not WHERE.”

Different Ways to Have Lunch With Students During School

Getting on the school campus during lunch is a great way to hang out with your youth group kids on their turfand meet new kids. I’ve had the opportunity to meet dozens of kids simply by meeting friends of kids I already know.
