Youth Group Meeting Ideas

Lesson Helper: Bringing Sin and Praise Together

Tonight I finished a series with my small group students. My goal has been to make their faith a central part of their home lives, even if their parents weren’t doing it themselves.

The method of choice for of our final lesson was to put their sin side-by-side with their praise so they could see the need for God in every part of their lives.

They cannot hope to make Christ central in their home life if they don’t allow Him into every aspect of their lives.

Holding Students Accountable for Small Group Attendance

Caution: I wouldn’t recommend doing this with students you don’t have a solid relationship with.

I have a small group student who has become very lazy about attending small group. It’s a little ironic because he lives just a couple of streets over from where we meet. Others who have to drive a much longer distance, however, never miss.

Who’s Your Hero? – Newburg Retreat

Who’s your hero? –is the question I asked the teenagers this past weekend while speaking for Newburg Retreat. Several youth groups gather each year at the Doubling Gap Retreat Center for their annual spring retreat. I was excited to return for my second year as their speaker.

While everything from the games, Saturday night’s dinner, and skits were themed around Superheroes, the focus was on equipping the teens to discover their ultimate superhero, tapping into their superpowers, and then become a hero by telling others about THE Hero.

Point in One Direction

Are you pointing your teens to Jesus Christ so they will turn and follow Him? At your weekly meetings do your teens see Christ or do they see you?

How Texting Changed My Youth Group

"What if they texted us their questions about the lesson?" And there it started.

The kids were listening but they never looked at me. They were texting almost the whole time. However they were paying attention in ways I never knew was possible.

I'm Not Running a Chuck E Cheese

Why do we want to give into that tendency to entertain first and disciple second? (Which can easily turn into entertain often and disciple rarely.) Is it possible that there’s something deeper going on inside us as leaders?

Discovering the Character of God through Proverbs

Pose the group the question of what they think it means to be 'wise'. Let it generate discussion as we share our answers...

Keep Pressing Toward the Mark

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Phil. 3:14)

Transformational Youth Ministry

"Youth ministry doesn't have to spend a fortune or put on a rock concert to be effective in reaching junior high and high schoolers for Christ. Personal relationships, adult mentors, honest conversation, and opportunities to help others create an atmosphere where students feel they belong, and eventually are able to believe."
