When Prayer Becomes Active

I once paid $10 to watch a vegetarian eat a piece of pork fat. My first full-time ministry job was working with another guy who trained and ran triathlons so he didn’t eat meat while he was training.

We developed a sophisticated “game” where if you bet the other guy $10 that they wouldn’t do something, the other guy would HAVE to do it or face the shame and ridicule of the other. It wasn’t really about the money, and it ended up being a $10 bill that we traded back and forth for what are now indelible memories of one-ups-man-ship and mild embarrassment.

Needless to say, it became a unique and significant part of our relationship through the years.

Unfortunately, I tend to look at my prayer life much in the same way as the “$10 bet.”....

Distractions: Believing Lies from the Accuser...

The Accuser wants you to focus on yourself and the hurt you are experiencing, not on reaching your lost friends and family. He wants you to be consumed in your shame and insecurity, not God’s love and power. If you continue to believe the lies from the enemy, you will be paralyzed to reach your friends for Jesus. Satan will pull you away from living THE Cause by feeding you with lies all day long. But how do I get away from these thoughts? Is there any hope?

Bible Study: Subscription VS. Sacrifice

Is your relationship with God a subscription or a sacrifice?  A subscription means that you go to God when you need to.  A sacrifice means that you intentionally make God a part of your daily life.

Iron Man 2: Sins and How it Affects Us

I became a huge fan of Iron Man when the first one came out in 2008. It is still one of my favorite movies in my collection today.

I always find it interesting the spiritual allegories we find in movies. Sometimes it’s a stretch to name them allegories but sometimes they just jump off the screen at you.

Hear me out – IM2 is NOT a Christian movie and there’s plenty of things in the movie to remind us it’s not. However there are some strong allegories we cannot ignore.

What Discipleship Means

“A disciple is a person-in-process who is eager to learn and apply the truths that Jesus Christ teaches him, which will result in ever-deepening commitments to a Christ-like lifestyle.” I used to think that once you became born again that you were automatically a disciple. A disciple is someone who follows, goes after, and or imitates a person or groups lifestyle. To simply become born again does not make you a disciple but it makes you a child of God.
