H.O.P.E.

Does (real discipleship) mean that when (a student) starts getting serious with that girl or guy that you need to tell some embarrassing stories about yourself? Yeah, it does. Does it mean that if you promise to be at their game on Saturday morning that you be there? Yeah, it does. Real discipleship is hard stuff.  Before you take it on....check this out....

Girl Talk: Who's Your Role Model?

When I was younger I went through fazes just like any other normal preteen girl does. I liked Hilary Duff for a while. I had her posters and bought all her movies and I loved all of her clothes!

A Good Story

I read quite a bit, makes me look smart. In all seriousness I do love to read, I sometimes pick up three books at a time, I know that doesn't make sense because rarely do we watch 3 movies at a time, but books are a little different.

I read because I'm drawn to a good story; however, the older I get the more I find that I'm drawn to real life stories.

Barriers to Communication with Youth

Barriers to Communication with Youth...one "dreaded" barrier amongst youth is Lecturing:  Giving your youth unsolicited advise.

For example, “If you want to get ahead in life you must really go to college. You should really work harder in school so that you can get into college.”

Why I'm a Student Pastor: Part 1

I’m a Student Pastor.

Five years ago, on June 1st, 2004, I walked into the First Baptist Church of Pipe Creek, TX as their new youth minister...

And it only took me 33 years to get there.

Following Through

Jesus says: "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away.

"Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep" (John 10: 11-15).

Youth Pastors Aren’t Replacement Parents

Why are youth pastors blamed for every bad thing any young person ever does in church?

We might find that some of our time is best spent helping parents be better spiritual leaders in their own homes.
