Personal Reflections

We Are Overcomers!

I went outside for a walk one night discouraged and felt God asking me again why I think He put me on this street. He took me to the end of the street to remind me of the reason why we live on this street!

At the end of my street is the typical green street sign that reads…. Victory

Get Real: It’s Time to Rest

Stressed. Tired. Worried. Frustrated.

For most of you school started about two weeks ago and around here I’ve heard these four words muttered from several students. To be honest, I’ve been muttering them myself lately.

Stepping Stones

He said something like (paraphrasing) “this verse doesn’t say that God’s word is a headlight, shining way down the path of your life to show you what will happen. It’s a lamp–just enough light to see the next step.”

Will You Walk With Me?

It’s that time of year again, it happens every year. Our car is due for inspection and I have this week to get it done. There was only one problem and it wasn’t getting an appointment with my mechanic. My problem was finding a way home once I dropped the car off at the garage. Since we’re down to one car and no one was available there was only one way home…WALK. So I put on my coat, hat and grabbed my MP3 player prepared to walk the three miles (yes, I measured it) home. Some of you are struggling, wrestling with parents fighting, divorce, temptation from friends, feelings of failure, self-image issues, and the list goes on. And the midst of all this you’re even stressing about where to go to college or what to do with you life. You’re not sure about your future and what it would look like in terms of success as the world sees it. Some days you don’t even want to think about what’s ahead.

Doubt

Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” – John 20:27

Transition in Ministry is Personal

After searching, browsing and searching some more I’ve discovered there are many articles and blog posts written about transition in ministry but yet very little, if any at all, discuss the personal side of the transition. As a matter of fact I wrote an article about transition in ministry about four years ago and no where did I discuss the personal side.

Life to the Fullest

If we’re all honest, sometimes it feels like God doesn’t want us to have fun. I mean, when people around us are living for the moment, it sure does look appealing. And of course it’s appealing, otherwise people wouldn’t be doing it.

Fruit Inventory

I once heard of a comparison between two people: an abrasive Christian and a likable atheist. Regardless of beliefs, most people would be attracted to the likable person rather than the abrasive person. This is just common sense.

Texting God

Do you text God? I do. I send him little 140-character-sized prayers throughout my day as things come up. Usually something like the following:
