We Are To Love God's Word. Do We Have To Like It?

A person who loves God’s word literally cannot function without it. But does that mean I have to like it?

Evolution: The Devil’s Sneak Attack

I can see why some people believe in the theory of evolution. I’m sure it sounds like a semi-plausible explanation to people who have been taught to think that way. Some of us, however, believe that there is a Creator who is all-powerful and all-loving. Give me God over primordial soup any day.

Life to the Fullest

If we’re all honest, sometimes it feels like God doesn’t want us to have fun. I mean, when people around us are living for the moment, it sure does look appealing. And of course it’s appealing, otherwise people wouldn’t be doing it.

Do Apologetics Help?

Remember when you were a kid and your parents said utterly ridiculous things like, “eat your vegetables and you’ll grow up big and strong.” My parents used all kinds of methods to get me to eat vegetables. They new how important it was that I learn to eat in a healthy manner. Some of those methods worked, but most of them didn’t.

I’m not a vegetable fan (unless you count potatoes), but over the years I have figured out how to eat them.

Jesus vs. Bon Jovi

We can easily get distracted with “things” in life and become excited and enthused about it to the point of forgetting what place Jesus MUST have in our lives.

Why is that we cheer, dance, scream and shout for our favorite athlete or musician, but we put our hands in our pockets the moment we stand in church to sing? This week Janel exposes a truth about how we ALL can get easily distracted in worshiping the wrong person or thing if we allow the stuff of this world to dictate our life.

Identity & Evangelism

“Who am I?”  This is the question virtually every teen asks themselves.

Identity is important in more ways than most could imagine. It isn’t just about a sense of self worth, it is much more.

When it comes to identity, it can be one of the biggest obstacles a person faces in sharing their faith, it can also be their sources of strength.

Discussion and Logic (and lack thereof)

Last night I went to Skinner's Pub with a few friends.

We talked about politics and religion - oh, and the thread count of our sheets. We had some great conversation.

One of my friends (he considers himself an unbeliever) said that one of the reasons he has a lot of trouble with Christianity is the lack of logic. He said that he finds it nearly impossible to follow many Christian's theology in a logical manner.

What Discipleship Means

“A disciple is a person-in-process who is eager to learn and apply the truths that Jesus Christ teaches him, which will result in ever-deepening commitments to a Christ-like lifestyle.” I used to think that once you became born again that you were automatically a disciple. A disciple is someone who follows, goes after, and or imitates a person or groups lifestyle. To simply become born again does not make you a disciple but it makes you a child of God.

Are You Inferior?

While I was there that summer I thought of Hebrews 7:7, “It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior.” It was evident that they (or at least the leadership) had definitely lost sight of the Superior.

So I started running through these questions in my own head.

Why do we think we are the ones who are superior to other people?...

Secure Salvation and Belief

I have two adult leaders in my youth ministry that have been madly going after our students making sure that our students are sure of their salvation. They have been at this for a couple years now, and I will refer to them as the "Salvation Confirmation Team."
