This is part four of the 7-part series I posted on my blog, dedicating real estate to blogging through the transitional process--announcing departure, setting up systems for success, remembering the work God has done, looking into the future, etc.
Getting started in a new church? You've made it through the interviews and hiring process. God is calling you to lead this new ministry. Keep reading for some fantastic pointers from a Youth Ministry pro who knows.
Things have changed a lot in our youth group in the past few months. Lots of things have changed. I am doing my own thing, running the “Chris Snyder Show” every Wednesday night, and I need to stop doing that. It is imperative that I stop doing that. I don't mean that I'm taking the focus off God and making it about me. What I mean is that I'm trying to do the whole thing on my own. It is not my show.
Right now I'm the only full time staff person in the youth ministry at our church. I'm okay with that because I have a great team of volunteer ministers who give so much of their time and money to make the ministry what it is today.
We recently had a new member or prospective new member luncheon. Each of the staff had a minute or two to introduce themselves and share what they did at the church. I thought I made a good pitch but our Pastor made an interesting observation about all our introductions.
