A Joy-Filled Life in Christ?

How have you experienced the joy of life with God?

It is true that we are citizens of our heavenly home, who are just passing through. The writer of Hebrews makes this clear in his rehearsal of the faith-filled pursuers of God in the Bible. He writes: “All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth” (Hebrews 11:13).

While that is true, it is also true that God is the maker of joy, who longs to bring that into our lives. This came to home to me recently as I read Paul’s words to the church in Philippi: “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4).

Scripture: I Am Significant...

John 15:5 I am a branch of Jesus Christ, the true vine, and a channel of His life.
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

John 15:16 I have been chosen and appointed to bear fruit.
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.

Scripture: I Am Secure...

Romans 8:1 I am free from condemnation.
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:28 I am assured that God works for my good in all circumstances.
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Seven Questions I'd Like My Pastor To Ask Me

I was just thinking about this and there are questions I would like my Pastor’s to ask me. Maybe you want your Pastor to ask you too.

If I am missing some please feel free to add yours.

Scripture: I Am Accepted...

John 1:12 I am God's child.
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

John 15:15 As a disciple, I am a friend of Jesus Christ.
I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

Failure Is An Option

I was told numerous times in staff meetings over the years that failure is not an option.

But failure is, and should be an option.

The Cycle of Discipleship (Part 1 of 2): Discipleship Takes Time

Discipleship is a buzz word in youth minsitry, but how is it done?

Here is an with some encouragement for you on the topic.

Hearing God's Voice

Discerning God's voice is not something that can be calculated or mastered like an algebra formula or foreign language.

But one thing that is clear throughout scripture is that God does speak, and that when we as believers seek to hear His voice and submit to His will, we can come to better hear from Him. That doesn't mean we always get it right, though ;)

Below are a number of examples from scripture when God guided His people

Could It Be

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. – Joshua 1:8

These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. – Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Helping Students Find Happiness

What is happiness? Before you read any further take a moment and try to define happiness.

Tomorrow I am going skiing at one of my favorite resorts in Colorado. I love to ski, I love the feeling of powder running over my skis, hitting my ski pants, and even occasionally smacking me in the face.

When I am going down the side of a mountain on a powder day, I am happy. Right?
