Doubt

Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand

Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” – John 20:27

Josh is an average teen who had nothing big ever happen to him. So tt was a surprise to find out that his uncle had a brain tumor and later found out his older brother had one too. His brother and uncle were a big part in his life, he looked up to them. Josh started to doubt God and got mad. He wondered why God would do this to him. Finding his faith, his brother was healed but sadly his uncle died after 6 years of his tumor. His brother is now successful in football.

At some point in our lives, we doubt God. We doubt his ability and his promises. Do we doubt God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross? We need to have faith in God that he’s going to do what’s best. Not just for us but for the people involved in our lives. Let’s stop doubting and have faith in Him! Josh learned from his experience with his brother and uncle to overcome doubt and trust God even if one outcome seems bad.

The doubt Thomas experienced in John 20:27 in the face of the heartbreaking loss of the One he loved is not unlike our own when we face a massive loss: despair, heartbreak, and exceeding sorrow, all of which Christ sympathizes with (Hebrews 4:15). But, although Thomas did in fact doubt the Lord’s resurrection appearance, once he saw the risen Christ, he proclaimed in faith, “My Lord and my God” (John 20:28).

Jesus goes on to say, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29, emphasis added). He meant that once He ascended to heaven, He would send the Holy Spirit who would live within us enabling us to believe what we do not see with our eyes.

Doubting Christians have two things doubting Thomas did not have—the Holy Spirit and God’s Word. By the power of both the Spirit and the Word, we can overcome doubts and, like Thomas, be prepared to follow Jesus and live THE Cause.(John 11:16).
